FPOS or FREC First Responder


First Person on Scene (FPOS) and First Response Emergency Care (FREC) First Responders have an intermediate level of training and are capable of dealing with serious situations including trauma, shock and scene management. They tend to have more experience of more serious incidents, as they are usually placed in a role where they are required to frequently attend incidents.

These personnel are used to carrying out dynamic risk assesments and assisting paramedics, they carry their own equipment, have the capability and willingness to deal with more serious injuries confidently and have been trained to administer more effective treatment including analgesic gas, oxygen and defibrilators. They are calm and consistent in all situations.

Staff at this level are capaple of supporting small events single-handedly or will capably join a larger, more organised medical team.

Ambulance Technician

Ambulance Technicians have a more detailed knowledge of injuries and symptoms for a wide range of conditions and more experience of treating them in adult and paediatric cases. They will have experience of responding to emergency calls as part of an ambulance service team.

They are trained to assist with moving patients safely and constantly observe vital signs responding to changes in the patient's condition quickly and carefully. They are trained and capable of using medical and life support equipment carried on vehicles.

Ambulance Technicians are capable of calmly responding to distressing emergency situations where people who may be badly hurt and severely traumatised.

Advanced Paramedic

State registered advanced paramedics have many years of experience in their role and further qualifications in advanced capabilities. They have access to a similar level of medication to a GP. They may have worked in specialist roles such as air ambulance, hazardous area response teams or other critical care roles.

Advanced Paramedics are usually only required for extremely high risk events or situations.
